When I was a young lad, actually on Christmas of 2008, I got Rock Band 2, one of the best video games of all time. My parents told me not to play it a lot cause video games are stupid and a waste of time, but I still played everyday. They told me that this game wouldn’t do anything to help me in life, and at first I agreed, until I played the drums. Before I played the drums in rock band, I hated them. I thought they were too hard to play because of the stamina you need to keep on banging the drums and cymbals while stepping on the bass pedal and all that good stuff, but playing rock band made me realize that the drummer is a very important and physically demanding role in a band and playing drums was actually fun. I know what you are thinking, it’s just a plastic drum set, it’s nothing like the real instrument, and you are right. They aren’t real drums, but rock band influenced me to start playing real drums. I can’t explain it, but I find hitting stuff fun, and drummers hit a lot of stuff. Plus, since music is my passion, I can start covering some of my favorite songs. But rock band wasn’t my only influence to start playing drums, Brandon Barnes (Rise Against drummer) and Lars Ulrich (Metallica’s drummer) were huge inspirations to me because they both are extremely great drummers. I’ve seen some of their videos live and after the concert is over, they are just worn out, covered in sweat and just really tired, proving that drumming is a challenge, and I want to take that challenge. One day I will be drumming, but not drumming for a famous band, but just as a hobby on my free time, but don’t be suprised if you see me on stage rocking out on a drumset. So yes, they may just be plastic drums, but they inspired me to begin a goal, the goal of drumming.
