What is up with rap these days? Personally, i’m not a huge fan of rap music, but there are some exceptions. For example, Eminem is a really good rapper. His songs have meaning behind them, like Mockingbird and When Im Gone. Sometimes he may just write a song for fun and put nonsense in it, but most rappers these days just rap songs that’s pure poppycock. Go li-li-li-li-li-lick a lollipop. Why are you telling me to lick a lollipop Lil Wayne? And why do rappers put  Lil in front of their name? There’s Lil Wayne, Lil Jon , Lil Romeo, Lil Bow Wow, Lil Scrappy, Lil Mo, and more. Not to metion, most of their songs are about bad things. I have a cousin who is from California and was in the gang stuff, and she played a song called 2 Joints. Guess what it was about? Here are some lyrics that I have heard from the song. It’s not worth my time to go search for it on google or youtube.

“I smoke 2 joints everyday, and everyday I smoke 2 joints. I smoke 2 joints when I play video games, and every ten-thousand points. I smoke 2 joints in time of peace, and 2 in time of war. I smoke 2 joints before I smoke 2 joints, and then I smoke 2 more.

Talk about a stupid song. For me, this has fail written all over it. I mean c’mon, I smoke 2 joints before I smoke 2 joints, and then I smoke 2 more. If you smoke that many joints, then how were you able to write this pathetic song? Oh no wonder, you were probably high while writing it. If you weren’t, then thats just sad. The worst part is that my cousin got her 2 little brothers to listen to this crap. They think it’s the best song ever and it’s way better than anything I listen to. Thats what you call IGNORANCE.

Now let’s go to the good side of rap. I know what you’re asking. Jose, rap has a good side? Yes it does, well at least it had back in the 70s and 80s. Just look at MC Hammer and his epic song Can’t Touch This. To this day, I still don’t know what I can’t touch, but the song is catchy and has MC Hammer doing the crab walk, and it has almost, if not, the exact same beat as Superfreak by Rick James. So i’m guessing all those things make Can’t Touch This a good song, right? Anyways, who can forget Sir Mix-A-lot’s Baby Got Back. Ok Sir mix-a-lot, that baby has back, what about it? And why would you be telling us that a baby has a back, do you know what comes out from there? By the way, that was a sarcastic, rhetorical question.

Overall, i’m not saying that rap is bad and you shouldn’t listen to it. I’m just saying that I don’t like rap songs that send out a bad, negative message, like smoking 2 joints, or getting it on with your shawty. As a matter of fact, I do listen to rap. I like the beat to some songs, and not to mention the fact that some rappers do in fact rap about meaningful events that has happened in their lives, and with good beats. Plus I always like to watch a good rap battle.
